Teenager held for assaulting schoolgirl

Habiganj: Local people caught and handed over a teenage boy to police for assaulting a schoolgirl and uploading the video of the incident on social networking site Facebook.

But Habiganj Sadar Model police officer-in-charge Nazim Uddin said the father of the school girl filed cases under women and child repression and Information and communication technology acts. Local people of Richi village caught Ruhul Amin and informed police. Later police arrested him.

A video showing a teenage boy slapping a school girl in Habiganj went viral on social networking site, Facebook, raising outrage across the country.

The video shows, a teenage boy stopped a girl on the street while she was passing him along with her friends. The boy shouted at the girl using abusive language and at one point slapped her. Later, the boy left the spot threatening to beat her.

The boy’s friend recorded the incident through mobile phone camera and uploaded the video on Facebook on Thursday afternoon.

The video triggered massive outrage among the public and people asked authorities to take action to bring the boy to judgement.

The victim’s father said the boy named Ruhul Amin, used to harass his daughter on her way to school for a long time. He informed Ruhul’s family about the matter but they did not pay heed to it.

The girl’s mother said Ruhul used to tease and throw lewd comments at her daughter on her way to school.

He also sent offensive text messages and phoned her repeatedly to bother her, said the victim’s mother.
