Habiganj: A man was killed and ten others were injured in a clash between two rival groups over a land-related dispute at Kalikapur village in Madhabpur upazila, Habiganj, on Saturday evening.

The deceased is Zia Uddin Zeru, a resident of the village.

Police said two groups of the village — one led by Zia and the other by Saifuddin Swapan — had long been at loggerheads over the ownership of a piece of land.

Over the issue, supporters of the two groups equipped with home-made weapons locked into a bloody clash in the evening which left 11 people including Zia injured.

On information, police went to the spot and brought the situation under control after half an hour.

Later the injured were taken to Madhabpur Health Complex where doctors declared Zia dead.

Police also arrested Swapan Miah from the hospital in this connection.

There also had taken place a murder incident in 2010 over the issue, said the Madhabpur police.
