Rajon murder case shifted to Sessions Judge’s Court
Sylhet: The case for killing teenage boy Rajon was transferred to the Metropolitan Sessions Judge’s Court from the Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court 1 on Monday.
Sylhet Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court 1 Judge Md Shahedul Karim issued the order to transfer the case after the hearing of the case in the morning.
According to the court order, the advertisement on the three absconding accused in Rajon murder case was submitted to the court.
Earlier on 31 August, the same court fixed 7 September for hearing on the case and also asked the authorities concerned to produce three fugitives accused in the case before the court within seven days.
The three fugitive accused are — Quamrul Islam, his brother Shamim Ahmed and Pavel.
Judge Shahedul Karim passed the order asking the authorities concerned to publish advertisements in daily newspapers showing the three accused as fugitives.
On 16 August, Suranjit Talukdar, inspector of the Detective Branch (DB) and investigation officer of the case, submitted a charge-sheet against 13 people in connection with the murder case.
The chargesheeted accused are Quamrul Islam, Muhit Alam, Shamim Alam, Pavel Islam, Ali Haider alias Ali, Moyna Mia, Nur Ahmed alias Nuru Mia, Dulal Ahmed, Ayaz Ali, Taz Uddin Badal, Firoz Mia, Asmat Ali, and Ruhul Amin.
On 8 July, 13-year-old boy Sheikh Samiul Alam Rajon, son of Sheikh Azizur Rahman of Badeali village in Sadar upazila, was brutally tortured to death over a theft at Sundar Ali Market in Kumargaon area of the city.
The killers themselves took the video footage of the incident. The video clip went viral on social networking site Facebook and video-sharing site Youtube which triggered a widespread outcry.
Twelve people have been arrested in connection with the gruesome murder and they reportedly made their ‘confessional’ statements separately to their involvement in the incident of Rajon murder.
Another accused, Quamrul Islam, brother of main accused Muhit Alam, fled to Saudi Arabia after the incident where he was held by local Bangladeshis and then handed over to Jeddah police.
