Jessore: Police have pressed charges against eleven people, including Jessore University of Science and Technology (JUST) unit Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) president Subrata Biswas and its general secretary Shamim Hasan, in a case filed in connection with the killing of JUST student Naimul Islam Riad.
Inspector of Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of police Momtazul Haque, also investigation officer of the case, submitted a charge sheet against them to a district court on Monday.
Police also appealed for acquitting three people, including district BCL general secretary Anwar Hossain Bipul, from the charges as their involvement with the murder could not be proved.
On 14 July 2014, a group of miscreants on 4-5 motorcycles opened fire at Riad, a fourth year student of Environment Science Department of JUST, when he along his friends was standing in front of the university’s main gate.
Later, the attackers also chopped him with sharp weapons, leaving him injured.
Riad was rushed to Jessore 250-Bedded General Hospital where he died in the afternoon.
