Dhaka: The by-election to Tangail-4 constituency will be held on 10 November instead of 28 October.

The Election Commission on Thursday issued a notification rescheduling the by-polls to the constituency that fell vacant following the resignation of former minister Abdul Latif Siddique from parliament.

As per the reschedule, the deadline for the submission of nomination papers is 11 October, while the date for the scrutiny of the nomination papers is 13 October and the last date for the withdrawal of candidature is 21 October, Director (Public Relations) of the Election Commission Secretariat SM Azaduzzaman told UNB.

Earlier on Tuesday, Chief Election Commissioner Kazi Rakibuddin Ahmad announced the polls schedule fixing the balloting for 28 October.

According to the previous schedule, the deadline for the submission of nomination papers was 30 September while the date for the scrutiny of the nomination papers was 3 October and the last date for the withdrawal of candidature was 11 October.

The parliamentary seat-133 (Tangail-4) remains vacant since 1 September as sacked minister Abdul Latif Siddique quit his parliament membership on the same date.

The former Posts and Telecommunications Minister was dropped from the cabinet and stripped off his membership of the ruling Awami League in October last year amid a wave of criticisms following his derogatory remarks on hajj and Tabligh Jamaat in the USA last year.
