2 accused snatched from police, 5 cops hurt

Maulvibazar: Miscreants snatched two handcuffed accused from police custody beating up five policemen at Dakkhin Pariabahar area in Borolekha upazila on early Monday.
Police said a team of Borolekha Police Station arrested Osman Uddin, 30, an accused in a snatching case, from his village in Beanibazar upazila.
Following the confessional statement of Osman Uddin, the police team with the help of Beanibazar Police raided the village at about 2:30am and arrested another accused Abu Bakkar from his residence.
As soon as the news of Abu Bakkar’s arrest spread, the relatives of the accused along with local people swooped on the policemen when they arrested another accused Morol from his house, said Jahirul Islam Talukdar, sub-inspector of Beanibazar Police Station.
The relatives of the two accused along with the local people beat up the policemen and snatched them from police.
Five policemen including Akbar Hossain, inspector of Borolekha Police Station, sub-inspector Amitabh Chowdhury, sub-inspector Bikash Chandra, sub-inspector Jahirul Islam Talukdar and constable Faruk were injured during the attack.
Maniruzzaman, officer-in-charge of Borolekha Police Station, said police arrested two people for their alleged involvement in the attack on police.
