Turkish First Lady, FM to meet Rohingyas in Bangladesh
Dhaka: Turkey's First Lady Emine Erdogan and Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu will visit Bangladesh on Thursday and Friday to meet Rohingyas who fled persecution in Myanmar's Rakhine state and oversee the delivery of aid by TİKA and Turkish Red Crescent.
Though the Foreign Ministry here is yet to make any official announcement, a diplomatic source confirmed news agency UNB about the visit.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan's son Bilal Erdogan, Family and Social Policies Minister Fatma Betul Sayan Kaya, AKP Deputy Chair Ravza Kavak Kan and senior Turkish aid officials will accompany the Turkish First Lady during the visit.
Meanwhile, Turkish Foreign Ministry in a statement said its Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu will visit Bangladesh on September 7-8 to offer Turkey's support and observe the on-site conditions of approximately 125,000 Rohingya refugees who have been forced to flee to Bangladesh.
The Turkish delegation is likely to arrive Wednesday late night or early Thursday with packs of relief materials, another official told UNB.
They are likely to go to Cox's Bazar directly by a special aircraft and will return to Dhaka on Thursday afternoon.
The Turkish Foreign Minister is likely to meet Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali during the visit.
State Minister for Foreign Affairs M Shahriar Alam will receive the Turkish delegation while they will be accompanied by Minister Ali, State Minister Shahriar Alam and Foreign Secretary M Shahidul Haque to Cox's Bazar.
The Turkish Foreign Minister is also expected to meet representatives of the international aid organisations in Dhaka apart from visiting the refugee camps and delivering humanitarian aid.
