Poland offers to invest in Bangladesh
Dhaka: Poland has expressed its keen interest to invest in Bangladesh's various sectors, including manufacturing, energy, coal and renewable energy, food processing, mining and waste management sectors.
Polish Ambassador to Bangladesh, stationed in New Delhi, Tomasz Lukaszuk said this when he met Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at her official residence Ganabhaban on Wednesday evening.
Prime Minister's press secretary AKM Shameem Chowdhuri briefed reporters after the meeting.
Tomasz Lukaszuk said his country has expertise on agriculture and food processing that could contribute to developing the sectors here, and mentioned Bangladesh’s mango and pineapple processing industries in this regard.
Sheikh Hasina urged Poland to import leather and leather goods, jute and jute goods, ceramic and pharmaceutical products alongside RMGs from Bangladesh as the items are of world standard.
The prime minister also sought Polish investment in fish and food processing and agriculture sectors saying the government has ensured an investment-friendly environment in the country while the people of Bangladesh are very hardworking ones and the labour cost is cheaper compared to other countries.
Tomasz Lukaszuk mentioned that Bangladesh is currently exporting RMG items to Poland worth US$ 800 million.
The Polish envoy highly appreciated Sheikh Hasina for her leadership on various international issues like climate change which was acclaimed worldwide.
He also lauded the Prime Minister for her dynamic and visionary leadership in achieving MDGs, and tremendous success in women empowerment and attaining sustainable economic progress of the country.
Lukaszuk thanked the Prime Minister for reopening Bangladesh mission in Warsaw saying the initiative would help further strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries.
In response, the prime minister said Bangladesh attaches importance to its relations with Poland that has been cooperating with Bangladesh since its Liberation War in 1971.
She recalled with deep gratitude the unequivocal support of the Polish government and its people during the Liberation War.
Hasina also highly praised the government of Poland as it did not accept killers of Bangabandhu who were given posting in Warsaw after 1975.
Principle Secretary M Abul Kalam Azad was present on the occasion.
