Ashulia garment factory closed following workers’ protest
Bando Design Limited, a garment factory owned by Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) president Siddiqur Rahman, have been shut for three days following a protest by its workers.
The factory is situated at Purba Narsinghapur of Ashualia, on the suburbs of Dhaka.
Workers of the factory were protesting the retrenchment of the factory’s production manager Sohel Mia who himself protested the initiative of retrenchment of some workers few days ago, a few workers told NTV Online.
Following their protest, the factory authorities locked the main gate on Saturday morning and declared closure of the factory for three days.
Ashulia Industrial police-1 director Mostafizur Rahman said, ‘Discussion with the authorities is on for reopening the factory. Additional police have been deployed in front of the factory to fend off any untoward situation.’
