Festival bonus disbursed by almost 100pc RMG factories: BGMEA
Dhaka: Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) on Saturday claimed that the festival bonus has been disbursed among workers by almost 100 percent RMG factories.
The apex body of the country’s apparel sector also said around 91 percent factories paid salaries for the month of August while the remaining ones will do so by Sunday.
‘At this moment, we’ve no factory which is yet to settle the salary and allowance issues,’ BGMEA president Md Siddiqur Rahman told reporters at a press conference at the BGMEA Bhaban, reports UNB.
BGMEA vice-president SM Mannan (Kochi), vice-president (Finance) Mohammed Nasir and vice-president Mahmud Hasan Khan (Babu) were also present at the press conference.
Siddiqur Rahman said some 88 percent RMG factories have so far announced Eid vacation and other factories will follow from Sunday.
The BGMEA chief said they have visited 928 small and medium factories, and BGMEA extended necessary support to 18 factories taking their problems into consideration.
Siddiqur Rahman said some 39 factories have been shut down as the Alliance and the Accord found faults there during their inspections.
Meanwhile, Accord and Alliance severed business relations with around 150 factories over the last one year as they factories failed to show significant progress within the timeframe of reforms, he said.
The Standing Committee on Road Transport and Bridges has decided to shut the mvement of trucks and lorries three days before and after the Eid-ul-Azha.
‘However, the RMG industry will remain out of the purview,’ said the BGMEA president.
