Dhaka: Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu on Monday said that Bangladesh wants to import urea fertilizers and petro-chemical goods from Iran under a government-to-government arrangement.  

‘We will also take technological support from Iran to modernize steel factories and sugar mills,’ he said during a meeting with Iranian Industry, Mines and Commerce Minister Mohammad Reza Nematzadeh at the minister's office in Iran, said a press release in Dhaka on Tuesday.

During the meeting, they underscored the need for enhancing the bilateral relations between the two countries through increasing investment, transferring technology and banking support to achieve Bangladesh's ‘Vision 2021’ and Iran's ‘Vision 2025’.  

Amu urged the Iranian minister to import apparel, ceramics, leather and pharmaceutical products from Bangladesh and said the country is maintaining international standard to manufacture products which are being exported in many developed countries, including Europe.  

He also made a proposal to the Iranian minister to set up a urea fertilizer factory in Iran under a joint venture and said, ‘If necessary, a noted company of the world can also take part in the project as a third partner.’
