Stocks suffer major loss
Dhaka: Stocks suffered major loss on Wednesday as selling pressures mounted for profit-booking. All the indications closed lower at both Dhaka and Chittagong stock exchanges.
The major DSEX index at Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) ended the session over 23 points lower at 4658.20 when the blue-chip DS30 finished down at 1757.23 and the Shariah DSES at 1113.06.
Despite the sell pressure, the daily trade value fell to Taka 591.44 crore from Tuesday’s Taka 609.44 crore and the volume fell to 16.94 crore shares from 17.23 crore of the previous session.
The market saw issues losing across the board due to profit-booking selling and repositioning of a large number of investors. Out of the 326 issues traded, 208 incurred loss and 75 gained.
Like previous session, majority of the issues incurred loss were from large-cap category. Mutual funds were also sunk, with only 2 gaining marginally while 13 closing lower.
The day’s top five gaining issues were JMI Syringes, Paramount, Monno Stafflers, Stylecraft and KDS Accessories. The major losers were Alltex, Miracle Industries, BD Welding, Lanka Bangla and Hakkani Pulp.
Doreen Power topped the turnover leaders, with KDS Accessories, Fortune, Aman Feed and Titas Gas following it.
Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) also finished the day down, with its major CASPI index ending over 97 points down at 14297.11.
Out of the 241 traded issues, 51 gained and 166 incurred loss when some 1.67 crore shares were traded for Taka 38.43 crore.
