Dhaka: Allegations of attacks, threats and harassments, tearing down posters, fictitious cases, arrests have been brought against the ruling party men and law enforcers by the BNP candidates of Habiganj, Bogura and Joypurhat districts.

In Habiganj, GK Gaus, an Oikyafront aspirant from Habiganj-3 constituency urged the local administration to refrain from working for ‘Boat’.

‘The local administration has lost its neutrality working for ‘Boat’ and they do everything necessary for the victory of ‘Boat’,’ said GK Gaus, BNP candidate of Habiganj-3 constituency, also the former mayor of Habiganj Municipality while talking at a press briefing at his party office in the afternoon, reports the UNB.

‘We have come to the election following the commitment of the Prime Minister as she had said that no ‘false cases’ will be filed and none will be arrested after the pronouncement of the election schedule. But in reality, some 135 BNP men have been arrested under the constituency after the announcement of the election schedule,’ he said.

He also alleged that the law enforcers detained 18 leaders of BNP-led 20-party alliance on Monday night, vandalizes motorbikes and took some leaders into custody.

‘During the drive, a policeman said that ‘Who have told you to participate in the election? We do not want your participation. We could no sleep in the night silently following the directives of the higher official concerned. Keep aside from election if you want your live’,’ said Gaus while briefing.

The Awami League aspirant Abu Zahir is conducting his election campaign with police protocol, violating the electoral code of conduct, he said. Though written complaint has been submitted to the returning officer and Chief Election Commissioner but they did not respond to it, he added.

‘I have a video footage of MP Zahir, saying to vote for boat openly in different election rallies,’ he said.

In Bogura, BNP candidate of Bogura - 5 constituency, Golam Mohammad Siraj alleged that he has been kept under confinement and refrained from operating election campaign.

Twice his party men were torture and his car was also vandalised but he received no help in this regard from the police or Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO), he said.

‘On Monday at Kusombi union in Sherpur upazila AL men vandalised four cars and beat up his supporters while today police barred their prescheduled campaign in the name of security,’ he added.

In Joypurhat-2 constituency, the candidate of BNP Advocate Abu Yusuf Md Khalilur Rahman alleged that his election campaign has been foiled by the ruling party men using muscle power and threats.

In a press conference at Press Club in Sadar upazila, he said there is no atmosphere of election prevails in the district.

The life of his supporters were under threat as AL men beating them up and filing fake cases against them in his electoral areas, he said.

His supporters could not enter many electoral areas so far as AL men swoop on them with local weapons if anyone tries to distribute leaflets or attack posters of BNP in those areas, he alleged.
