Kochi: Eminent oceanographers, environmentalists, naval exponents and maritime industrialists from across the world will converge here for the maiden edition of four-day World Ocean Science Congress (WOSC)-2015, beginning here Thursday.

The Congress will deliberate on finding sustainable means to utilise ocean resources without causing damage to the oceans and their marine life, said an organiser.

“Around 1,000 delegates from India and abroad are expected to participate in the event. The meet is expected to discuss ways and means to use ocean resources for improving our GDP without disrupting the ocean life and environment,” said V.N.Sanjeevan, secretary general, WOSC-2015.

The WOSC is being organised by Swadeshi Science Movement, Vijnana Bharati, Kerala chapter and Kerala University of Fisheries and Ocean Studies (KUFOS).

“The Congress will be a platform for the experts to discuss scientific, cultural, business, environmental and climatic aspects related to oceans,” said Swadeshi Science Movement secretary Gireesh Kumar.
