Khaleda seek withdrawal of arrest warrant
Dhaka: Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) chairperson Khaleda Zia on Tuesday filed a petition with the court seeking the withdrawal of arrest warrant issued against her in Zia Orphanage and Zia Charitable Trust Fund graft cases.
Khaleda’s lawyer Sanaullah Miah filed the petition on her behalf before the Dhaka Special Judge’s Court-3.
Judge Abu Ahmed Jamadar of Special Judge’s Court-3 is expected to hear the petition around 2:30 pm on Tuesday.
The next hearing of the two graft cases against Khaleda Zia and two others is scheduled to be held on Wednesday.
Khaleda’s lawyer Sanaullah Miah said she is unlikely to appear before the court during the hearing.
Although there is a warrant for her arrest, BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia is unlikely to appear before the court on Wednesday to seek bail in Zia Orphanage and Zia Charitable Trust Fund graft cases.
On February 25, Special Judge’s Court-3 issued warrant for the arrest of Khaleda Zia and two other accused in the two graft cases, revoking her bail.
Judge Abu Ahmed Jamadar of Special Judge’s Court-3 on the Bakshibazar Alia Madrasah playground also fixed March 4 (Wednesday) for the next hearing on the case.
Another court here on Sunday issued a warrant for the search of BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia’s Gulshan political office in a case filed under the Explosive Substances Act.
However, the law enforcers are yet to take any move either to arrest the BNP chief or raid her office.
Meanwhile, Khaleda’s another counsel Khandaker Mahbub Hossain filed a petition to the High Court for changing the judge of the special court as their client has no confidence in him.
The hearing on the petition is scheduled to be held on March 5.
BNP sources said Khaleda Zia is unwilling to leave her Gulshan office now as she has information that the government will either arrest her in the two cases or will not allow her entering her office once she leaves it.
