Blockade steps into 61st day

Dhaka: The countrywide indefinite transport blockade, enforced by the Bangladesh Nationalist Party-led 20-Party Alliance entered the 61st day on Saturday.
In the capital, police held 10 leaders and activists of BNP and Jamaat for ‘sabotage plan’ from different places of the city during a drive continuing for 24 hours till this (Saturday) morning.
No procession or picketing was seen in support of the hartal in the city.
Presence of motorised vehicles was almost normal on the streets.
A large number of law enforcers remained deployed in different parts of the capital to fend off any trouble.
In Comilla, at least 25 Molotov cocktails were recovered from Baltupa area in Sadar upazila early Saturday.
BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia enforced the blockade for an indefinite period on January 5 after having failed to come out of her Gulshan office to join a planned rally of the 20-party alliance in the city to mark 'Democracy Killing Day'.
