Talks with BNP to undermine Independence War: 14-party

Dhaka: Awami League-led ruling 14-Party Alliance on Tuesday said dialogue with the Bangladesh Nationalist Party amounts to undermining the spirit of the country’s Independence War.
‘Holding dialogue with BNP means giving them political concession despite carrying out subversive activities by it in the name of political programmes,’ said Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal general secretary Sharif Nurul Ambia.
He made the remarks while addressing a discussion, titled ‘Spirit of the Liberation War and militancy and sectarianism’, organised by Bangladesher Samyabadi Dal at the National Press Club in Dhaka.
Ambia was critical of the BNP and alleged that the party does not believe in Bangladesh’s independence and its existence as well.
He called upon the BNP-led alliance to take part in the upcoming elections to Dhaka South, Dhaka North and Chittagong City corporations shunning violence.
Awami League office secretary Abdus Sobhan Golap, Samyabadi Dal general secretary Dilip Barua, Jatiya Party (Manju) secretary general Sheikh Shahidul Islam and Ganatantri Party general secretary Shahadat Hossain, among others, spoke at the programme.
