Blockade to continue, demo on Sunday
The BNP-led 20-Party Alliance has announced to stage demonstrations countrywide on Sunday protesting the ‘killing and mass arrest’ of Alliance leaders and activists.
The announcement came through a statement signed by the BNP joint secretary general Barkatullah Bulu, on Saturday.
Though nothing was mentioned about the continuation of the blockade in the first copy of the statement, it was informed later through a revised statement that the blockade will continue.
In the statement, the leaders and activists of the 20-Party Alliance have been called to stage Sunday’s countrywide demonstration peacefully.
The statement reads, ‘Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Friday said that the 81-day movement of Khaleda Zia has failed. She also said she does not understand how the conscious citizens of the country support BNP.’
Responding to the statement of the Prime Minister, the statement reads, ‘Please stand in line with the people without depending on the law enforcing agencies filled-up with party activists, you will see whether the movement is successful or not. A national election under a neutral government will clear the issue.’
Showing the results of the elections of 5 city corporations, the statement says, ‘People did not forget to respond to the oppressive rule of this government voting for BNP candidates. Similarly, people will ensure the victory of 20-Party Alliance if they get the chance to cast their votes in future.’
