Meherpur: Three suspected robbers were lynched at Rajapur village of Sadar upazila in Meherpur in the early hours of Thursday.

The deceased are Faruk, in his thirties, of Chakshyamnagar village, Rafique, in his twenties, and Shariful Islam, in his forties, resident of Juginda village of Gangni upazila.

The bodies were kept in Meherpur General Hospital morgue.

The Meherpur police said a group of about 12 robbers beaten a security guard and entered into Rajapur village at about 11:30pm.

The guard called local people to help. The local people caught three robbers and beat them hard as the robbers hurled bombs at the crowd.

Police rescued the robbers from the mob and found a robber dead. Two others died on their way to Meherpur General Hospital.

Police said they recovered a pistol and a bomb from the spot.
