Khokon offers fix for Dhaka traffic gridlock
Dhaka: Awami League-backed mayoral candidate for Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) elections Syed Khokon on Sunday announced his election manifesto at a press conference organised by ‘Sahashro Nagarik Committee’ (Citizens’ Committee of One Thousand) at the city’s Engineering Institution auditorium.
In his manifesto Khokon, also son of former Dhaka mayor Mohammad Hanif, promised to prioritise five issues including solution for Dhaka’s infamous traffic gridlock, ensuring electricity, water, and gas services to its citizens, and taking effective measures to free Buriganga river from pollution.
Former food minister Abdur Razzaq, ‘Sahashro Nagarik Committee’ convenor writer Syed Shamsul Haq, Awami League leaderMrinal Kanti Das were, among others, present.
Sayeed Khokon was given symbol of ‘hilsha fish’ for the city corporation poll, which was publicised on Friday morning from the returning officers’ office at Mahanagar Natyamancha in Gulistan.
Elections to Dhaka North, Dhaka South and Chittagong city corporations will be held on 28 April.
