AL leader filed case, BNP’s case not taken
Dhaka: Awami League leader filed a case against 100 unnamed persons, including Bangladesh Nationalist Party Chairperson’s Security Force (CSF) members, for attacking Awami League activists during Khaleda Zia’s election campaign for the city corporation polls.
On the other hand, Tejgaon police refused to take BNP chairperson’s complaint over the incident.
Khaleda Zia’s advisor Mahbubuddin Khokon submitted the documents to a duty office officer the police for filing a case at about 11:00am on Tuesday.
Ramjan Ali, the duty officer, told the lawyers, ‘the officer-in-charge will decided whether the case would be taken or not.’
Khokon said the police refused to take the case over the attack on BNP chairperson.
However, Zahirul Haque Zillu, AL Dhaka ward-26 unit president, filed a case with Tejgaon police on Monday night, said the police.
The complainant in the first information report (FIR) of the case stated that the attack on the ruling party leaders and activists was made to seriously injure and kill them, said the Tejgaon police.
Earlier, BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia’s motorcade came under attack during her electioneering in the Karwanbazar area of Dhaka in favour of her party-backed Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) mayoral candidate Tabith Awal on Monday afternoon.
BNP on Monday called countrywide hartal for Wednesday and protests on Tuesday protesting at the attack on its chairperson.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Monday termed the attack on Khaleda Zia’s motorcade ‘a drama' and called her to stop this and let people live peacefully.
