Manzur accuses opponents of capturing polling booth
Allegations of capturing voting station have come against Chittagong City mayoral contestant AZM Nasir Uddin, who, however, is in denial of such accusation.
Nasir Uddin is backed by both Citizens’ Committee and the ruling Awami League in the Chittagong City Elections.
Former mayor of the port city Manzur Alam on Tuesday claimed that the supporters of Nasir Uddin were forcing Manzur’s agents to leave polling station. He also alleged that his agents were receiving threats from the opponents.
But, AZM Nasir Uddin dismissed such allegations. He said, ‘Voting is going on peacefully. There is no irregularities’.
He made the remark while talking to the journalists after casting his vote at Chittagong Municipality Model High School and College polling station.
He also expressed his hope to win the election.
A total of 1188 mayoral and councillor candidates are running for 182 posts in the two Dhaka cities and Chittagong city corporations’ polls, where some 60 lakh people are expected to exercise their franchise in 2,701 polling stations.
