City Polls
All but 6 get back deposits
Among the 48 mayoral candidates in Dhaka North, Dhaka South and Chittagong city elections only 6 candidates will get back their money deposited to the Election Commission before the election.
Others will lose their deposit to the government since they failed to poll a minimum of one eighth of the total vote cast.
The six mayoral candidates are Anisul Haque and Tabith Awal from Dhaka North City, Sayeed Khokan and Mirza Abbas from Dhaka South City, and Chittagong city mayor contestant M Manzur Alam.
The Bylaw 3 of Rule 44 in Local Government (City Corporation) Election Rules-2010 says that if any candidates gets less than one eighth of the vote cast they will lose money deposited to the EC.
In the three city elections a total of 87.5% of total candidates lost their deposits, while only 12.5% would be refunded.
