AL-backed candidate wins Nagarkanda mayoral polls
Awami League-backed mayoral candidate Raihan Uddin, locally known as Robbel Master, has won the Faridpur Nagarkanda Municipality election defeating his closest competitor BNP-backed Asaduzzaman Asad.
Raihan Uddin polled 5, 385 votes while Asaduzzaman bagged 216 votes only.
Voting started on Wednesday from 8:00am in 9 polling stations and continued till 4:00pm.
Faridpur senior election officer Faridul Islam announced the polls result later in the evening.
No violence was reported from any of the polling station as security was conspicuously tight in the area.
The office of Nagarkanda Municipality mayor fell vacant after International Crimes Tribunal sentenced its former mayor BNP leader Zahid Hossain Khokan to death for his crimes against humanity during the War of Independence.
