15 polling centres witnessed over 90pc turnout
Dhaka: Voter turnout exceeded 90 per cent in 15 polling stations, but fell below 10 per cent in five others out of the total of 2701 centres in the recently concluded elections to three city corporations in Dhaka and Chittagong.
Of the 15 polling stations, over 98 per cent of votes were cast in two stations, while more than 97 %in four other stations, according to factsheets of the 28 April’s city election result.
Among the stations with over 90 percent turnout, nine are in Chittagong City Corporation (CCC), five in Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) and one in Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC).
In CCC, turnout was 98.82 %in Agrabad Talebiya Government Primary School Centre No-503, 98.37 %in Salima Siraj Mahila Fazil (Degree) Madrasha Centre No-327, 97.74 %in Dakkhin Kattoli Pranhari Model Government Primary School Centre No-233, 97.14 %in Ahammodia Government Primary School Centre No-689, 95.98 %in PH Amin Academy High School Centre No-231, 94.49 %in Sanowara High School Centre No-363, 92.64 %in Bagmoniram Abdur Rashid City Corporation School Centre No-311, 92.27 %in New Tigerpass Government Primary School Centre No-296 and 90.87 %in Purba Firoz Shah Colony Government Primary School Centre No-195.
In DSCC, 97.35 %votes were cast in Maniknagar Model High School Centre No-134, while 94.53 %in Kamalpur School and College (Male) Centre No-112, 93.08 %in Parish International School (Female) Centre No-36, 91.07 %in Sirajul Islam Academy Government Primary School Centre No-707 and 90.85 %in Abu Jar Gifari College Centre No-204.
In DNCC, 97.26 %votes were cast in Uttara High School and College Centre No-8.
Among the five polling stations where the voter turnout was less than 10 per cent, four are of DNCC and the other one in CCC.
In DNCC, only 4.15 %of voters cast their votes in Shaheed Police Smriti High School Centre No-135, while 6.62 %in Technical Teachers Training College Centre No-821, 8.46 %in Tejgaon Adarsha School and College Centre No-810 and 9.98 %in Technical Teachers Training College Centre No-820.
In CCC, only 8.68% of voters exercised their voting rights in Navy Adarsha Government Primary School Centre No-657.
Moreover, the voter turnout was less than 20% in some 70 polling stations of DNCC election.
Besides, BNP-backed CCC mayoral candidate Monzur Alam got nil vote in a station, while BNP-backed DNCC mayoral contender Tabith Awal secured only one vote in a station.
Monzur bagged nil vote in Halishahar Meher Afzal High School Centre No-634, though his prime rival AJM Nasir secured 746 votes out of 3629 under the centre.
Tabith Awal bagged one vote in Paikpara Staff Quarter High School Centre No-404, though his rival Awami League-supported mayoral contestant got 395 votes out of 1794 votes under the polling station.
Earlier on 28 April, some 44.02% of the total voters of 60,29,282 exercised their franchise in the city elections in Dhaka and Chittagong.
The voter turnout was 37.30% in DNCC, 48.57% in DSCC and 47.89% in CCC.
However, more than 1, 21,000 votes were cancelled in the three city corporations’ elections, that is 4.56 percent of the total votes cast.
