Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has been greeted by her Indian counterpart Narendra Modi on the occasion of the passage of Land Boundary Agreement bill by the Indian parliament.

Modi phoned Sheikh Hasina on Thursday evening and conveyed his good wishes for the people of Bangladesh, confirmed prime minister’s press secretary AKM Shamim Chowdhury.

In a twitter post Indian prime minister said, ‘I spoke to Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and conveyed my good wishes on this landmark occasion.’

Modi also hoped that the amendment bill passed by Lok Sabha on Thursday would ensure ‘a permanent settlement of land boundary with Bangladesh & resolution of long-pending boundary issues.’

Earlier on 7 May Lok Sabha, the lower house of Indian Parliament, passed constitutional amendment bill aiming to materialise Bangladesh-India Land Boundary Agreement – 1974, a day after Rajya Sabha passed the bill.

Under the land boundary agreement Bangladesh will get 111 enclaves measuring a total of 17,258 acres of land, while India will get 51 enclaves covering 7,110 acres of land.
