3 AL-backed candidates win after re-balloting in 3 DSCC wards
Dhaka: Three Awami League-backed councillor candidates won in Ward no-8, 34 and 53 of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) after re-balloting of three polling stations on Monday, with no chance of having any influence on the official results, which have already been gazetted.
The three polling stations are South Kamalapur Sher-e-Bangla High School (Centre No 151 and Ward No 8), Suritola Primary School (Centre No 563 and Ward No 34) and Shyampur Ashraf Master Ideal High School (Centre No 807 and Ward No 53).
Al-supported Sultan Miah was unofficially elected as councillor of Ward No 8, while AL-rebel Mir Samir in Ward No 34 and AL-supported Nur Hossain of the Ward No-53.
However, BNP-backed councillor candidate Md Mamun in Ward No 34 bagged highest 923 votes in the re-balloting of Suritola Primary School Centre on Monday, while Samir pocketed only 366 votes. But Samir finally took lead with the votes he bagged in other polling stations on 28 April.
The Election Commission on 28 April cancelled the balloting of the three polling stations due to violence during the city corporation elections.
