Truck, stone quarry workers’ indefinite strike begins in Jaflong

Sylhet: Truck and stone quarry owners and workers went on an indefinite strike in Jaflong of Goainghat upazila on Saturday morning demanding reconstruction of the Sylhet-Jaflong Highway.
The decision to enforce the strike came from a meeting by different associations, including local truck owners and workers union and stone quarry owners and workers, on Thursday.
All types of truck on the road stopped plying after the strike began.
Shovel workers in different areas of Goainghat abstained from work from 6am. They did not load trucks and unload stones from any vehicles in the morning.
The union leaders said they had been demanding reconstruction of the Sylhet-Jaflong highway, especially from Mohammadpur to Balaghat and Jaflong road, as the conditions of the road are not suitable to run vehicles.
They decided to enforce the strike from today (Saturday) as the authorities did not take any initiative to meet their demands.
