Salahuddin’s wife off to Shillong

Dhaka: Hasina Ahmed, wife of BNP leader Salahuddin Ahmed, left here for Shillong, India on Sunday night to meet her detained husband there.
Hasina got Indian visa in the evening and left her house at about 8:0pm for Shahjalal International Airport, Salahuddin’s brother Giasuddin Ahmed said.
He said Hasina’s brother-in-law Mahbubul Kabir Munmun is accompanying her.
Giasuddin said Hasina and Munmun left the airport for Kolkata by an Air India flight at about 10:00pm.
From Kolkata, they will go to Shillong in another flight, he added.
Earlier in the day, BNP assistant office secretary Abdul Latif Jony from Shillong told UNB that Salahuddin is very much tensed to see his wife Hasina Ahmed and asked him repeatedly when she is coming to meet him.
Meghalaya police arrested BNP joint secretary general Salahuddin Ahmed on 11 May as he was hanging around aimlessly in Golf Links area of Shillong after nearly two months of his disappearance. Since he had no valid papers, identity proof or travel permit, he was arrested by Meghalaya police and booked under the Foreigners Act.
On 12 May, BNP joint secretary general Salahuddin Ahmed who remained missing for over two months phoned his wife Hasina from Meghalaya Institute of Mental Health & Neurological Science (MIMHANS) of India asking her to go there.
Though she applied for Indian visa the following day, Hasina got it on Sunday evening.
