Nilphamari: At least 28 houses were gutted in a fire which broke out at Tangnagar Purbeshwar Para village in Sadar upazila, Nilphamari, in the early hours of Monday.

Manager of Sadar Fire Service and Civil Defence Aftab Hossain said the fire broke out at the kitchen room of a house at about 2:30pm and soon engulfed 27 adjoining houses.

Two fire fighting units went to the spot and doused the blaze after one and a half hours.

The extent of losses from the fire was estimated at Tk25 lakh, added the manager.
