Gazipur: Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader on Saturday said the issue of keeping someone in the cabinet or removing him/her depends on the decision of the Prime Minister.

Replying to a question about the removal of Awami League general secretary Syed Ashraf from the LGRD Ministry, Quader said, ‘We’re united under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and she can bring any change in the cabinet in the interest of the country and the party. I am talking to you as a minister. But I have to resign if the Prime Minister wants. So it is imaginary to find out any link with the internal issues of the party.’

The minister came up with the remarks while talking to reporters after visiting the Dhaka–Mymensingh Highway at Cherag Ali Market, Tongi in the morning.

Regarding Eid travels, the minister said no one will be spared if the Eid holidaymakers face any trouble due to bad road conditions.

‘This time, we’ll make the journeys of Eid holidaymakers comfortable at any cost. We won’t let them to suffer…We’re committed to that,’ said the minister.

The conditions of roads and highways across the country are better than in the past and the four-lane construction works on Dhaka-Mymensingh and Dhaka-Chittagong are almost complete, claimed Obaidul.

Recently, he said, rains have damaged some roads and officials concerned have been working hard to make those fit for the plying of vehicles and they will continue their work until Eid.
