Manikganj: Water vessels movement which was suspended throughout the country on Thursday due to inclement weather caused by cyclone ‘Komen’ resumed on Friday as the cyclone has weakened.

Enamul Haque, an official of Aricha River port officer of BIWTA, said the movement of water vessels on Daulatdia-Paturia route resumed at about 10:00am as the BIWTA lifted its ban on Friday.

Twenty eight vessels, out of 36, have started operations on Friday, he said.

Munshiganj correspondent reports plying of launch and speedboats on Shimulia-Kawrakandi route resumed at about 9:00am on Friday, 24 hours of its suspension.

The BIWTA authorities suspended movements of water vessel across the country on Thursday morning as cyclone ‘Komen’ was approaching near the coast.

Besides, Shahidullah, assistant director of BIWTA said the plying of water vessels on Barisal route will resume at about 5:00pm on Friday.

Meanwhile, Dhaka Meteorological Department sources said the coast crossing cyclonic storm ‘Komen’ crossed Chittagong coast near Sandwip at about 6:00am on Friday and now lies over Noakhali and adjoining land area as a land depression.

Earlier, The Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) suspended until further notice the operation of vessels on water routes throughout the country.
