Khulna: Railway Communications of Khulna with rest of the country were halted after a freight train derailed in Khulna in the early hours of Wednesday.

The derailment occurred as two compartments of the freight train from Ishwardi, Pabna veered off the tracks near Daulatpur Station at about 6:20am.

Assistant driver of the train, Hedayet Hossain said eight wheels of a compartment and four wheels of another were derailed.

The reason behind the derailment could not be known immediately.

A salvage train from Khulna went to the spot at about 8:30am.

Ashraf Hossain, driver of the derailed train, said the rescue operation may take around five hours.

Kapataksha, Mahananda, Chitra, Commuter, Rupsha Inter-city trains could not leave Khulna while four trains are still on the line to enter the city of Khulna due to the derailment.
