Chittagong: A worker was burnt to death as a fire broke out in a shipyard following a generator blast at Dakhshin Shitolpur area in Sitakundo upazila of Chittagong on Tuesday morning.

The deceased is Mohammad Ilias, in his thirties, son of Abdul Jalil, hailing from Bagherpara upazila in Jessore district, and a helper of N K Shipyard.

Sitakundo police sub-inspector Mohammad Saifullah said, Ilias received serious burn injuries as the fire broke out in the N K Shipyard following the explosion of a generator.

On information two fire fighters from Kumira Fire Station rushed to the spot and brought the fire under control after two hours of frantic efforts, said Abdullah Harun, the station officer.

Later, the injured was rushed to Chittagong Medical College Hospital where doctor declared him dead.
