Sylhet: A man was beaten to death by some people over a trivial matter at Humayun Rashid Chattar in Dakkhin Surma upazila, Sylhet, on Thursday night.

The deceased is Nazrul Islam, 50, resident of Islampur village in sadar upazila of Munshiganj district.

Police said Nazrul had an altercation with a young man named Sourav over a trifling matter while traveling to Sylhet from Jaflong.

When they reached Humayun Rashid Chattar, Sourav along with some people again picked up a quarrel with Nazrul at about 8:00pm.

At one stage, they beat up Nazrul and left him critically injured.

Later he was taken to Sylhet Osmani Medical College Hospital where he died in the night.

Jidan Al Musa, additional deputy police commissioner (south), said police arrested Sourav, a resident of Khagdiar Miror Para in this connection.
