Vacation's over and it's back to the same old routine, but why not try something new? We're giving you the scoop on how to shake up your fitness program this fall.

Virtual reality spinning

As virtual reality swoops in to sweep you away from your dimly lit living room or the cylinder block walls of your gym, projecting you through the galaxy, spinning class is leading the way. Feel like that still bicycle is actually taking you somewhere in a fast and furious way as you race against time -- at High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) pace, of course.

Bogfit

What started out in Ireland went viral has now spun off to Australia and Canada, perhaps -- make that definitely -- for its appeal to those who like to get down and dirty. Developed by Matty Power, the moves focus on building explosive power by jumping over log piles, boxing moves to defend your roost if need be and, of course, sprints.

Pound

What if your fitness class brought extraneous benefits, such as a sense of musicality? Developed by two female drummers, the workout blends cardio HIIT training with drumming. The trend started in the US and is predicted to take Europe and Oceania by storm this year. Special drumsticks called Ripstix are required.

Aquabase

Just when you thought every variation on yoga -- from Vogua to Snowga -- had come to town, gurus are turning to the mat as yet another way to fundamentally change the practice, taking it to the water. That's right, Aquabase is a yoga mat that floats, adding an extra dimension of challenge that could improve your balance and strength. What's more, with Aquabase, you're not limited to yoga, with HIIT, pilates, floor barre or any variation of the like possible.

Trapfit

Coming at you from Hollywood, Trapfit is sweeping the globe, blending the sheer thrill of flying through the air on a trapeze with HIIT fitness. It builds strength, agility and involves deep stretching all the while getting your heart rate pumping for an adrenaline rush like no other.
