Bagerhat: Ringleader of the forest robber gang, ‘Sagar-Saikat Bahini’, was killed in a reported gunfight with Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) members at Amragachia Khal in Sarankhola upazila of the district on Wednesday morning.

The deceased is Akkas alias Rahim alias Jamal, resident of Padma village in Patharghata upazila of Barguna district.

RAB Barisal 8 Deputy Commander said a gang of forest robbers were hiding at Amragachia Khal, a team of the elite force conducted a drive there on Tuesday night.

Early on Wednesday, when a RAB team reached Amragachia Khal, a gang of around 12 robbers started to open fire at the RAB members, forcing them to retaliate.

At a stage, the robbers fled scene and later RAB members recovered the body of Akkas after a search in the forest.

The elite force also recovered fourteen rifles, one air gun, 98 bullets, seven sharp weapons, three shells of bullet, three SIM cards and a mobile phone set.
