Patuakhali: A court in Patuakhali on Thursday sentenced a man to life time imprisonment for killing his father in 2014.

The convict is Sanjay Kumar, son of Harinad Khaskel of Sumki upazila in the district.

The court also fined him Tk 20,000, in default, to suffer two years more of rigorous imprisonment.

According to the prosecution, Sanjay, a drug addict, hacked his father to death following refusal to give him money he demanded at Uttar Muradia village in Dumki upazila on 2 February 2014.

Kamala Rani, wife of Harinad, filed a case against his son.

Later police arrested Sanjay and he made confessional statement before the court.

After examining records and witnesses, Judge Bimal Chanda of District and Sessions Judge’s Court handed down the verdict.
