Gopalganj: Police on Saturday arrested the secret lover of the mother who recently came to public attention after committing filicide in assistance with this man.

Earlier the woman confessed that she, along with her amour, had killed her two sons for keeping their extra-marital affair secret, as the children had seen them together in an intimate situation.

Police arrested the said man from his Madaripur business office during a manhunt after the woman revealed his involvement in the killings, said Gopalganj Sadar police officer-in-charge Sawgatul Alam adding that the accused was brought to Gopalganj last night.

Later, police appealed to the court of additional chief judicial magistrate Mamunur Rashid for quizzing the arrested person for seven days. The court fixed Monday for hearing on the appeal.

The fiendish killings took place at the Bhojergati village of Gopalganj Sadar upazila on Thursday last week.

Gopalganj assistant superintendent of police (circle) Amirul Islam said, ‘The mother made the confession on Saturday after she was produced before the court of Gopalganj chief judicial magistrate Gautam Ghosh.

Amirul Islam said the woman got engaged in an extra-marital affair with the man who was from Madaripur.

According to police, the said lover came to visit the woman on Thursday night when her husband was not at home. But as the elder son of the house Rayhan Sardar (10) saw them together in an intimate situation, they strangled him with a scarf. Later, they also killed the younger son Rais Sardar (4).

Police arrested the mother after the father of the deceased children filed a murder case over the incident.
