Voting in Singair municipality on amid tight security

Manikganj: Voting in Singair municipality, which was stayed by the High Court following allegation of irregularities, is going on peacefully on Thursday amid tight security, reports local news agency.
The balloting began at about 8:00am and will continue till 4:00pm without any break.
The Election Commission took all necessary preparations for holding the election peacefully.
Six candidates are vying for the mayoral post, 33 for the general councillor posts while seven are in the race for women councillor reserved seats in the election.
Some 20,014 people will cast their votes in 10 polling centres of the municipality, said returning officer Munir Hossain.
Members of Rapid Action Battalion and Border Guard Bangladesh remain deployed in the centres alongside police and Ansar members, he said.
Earlier on 1 December, the High Court stayed for six months the election process for Singair municipality on the allegation of irregularities in its voter list.
The EC on 6 December postponed the election to the municipality following the HC order.
However, the Supreme Court on 7 December stayed until 21 January the HC order, clearing the way for holding the polls.
