Brahmanbaria: The countrywide dawn-to-dusk hartal for Wednesday, called by senior teachers of Jamia Islamia Yunusia Madrasa in Brahmanbaria, has been withdrawn.

The hartal was called protesting the death of a student of the madrasa.

Jamia Islamia Yunusia Madrasa Mawlana Mobarak Ullah on behalf of the senior teachers of the seminary declared the hartal at about 10:15am on Tuesday.

Hafez Masudur Rahman, a student of Jamia Islamia Yunusia Madrasa was died after he was injured in the 3-way riot broke out in Brahmanbaria town on Monday evening.

The deceased, also resident of Shamantaghar village of Nabinagar upazila, died undergoing treatment at Brahmanbaria Sadar Hospital in the early hours of Tuesday.

Masudur’s brother Hafez Mohammad Mamun and classmate Mufti Niyamul Islam claimed Masud was shot by police during the clash.

The decision of withdrawal came after Assistant Police Superintendent Taposh Ranjan Bose and Sadar police Officer-in-Charge Akul Chandra Biswash were withdrawn from their duty and closed to the district police lines following their failure to tackle the riot that broke out in the district town on Monday night.

They were withdrawn following an order from the central police headquarters in Dhaka.

Seminary students, local people, traders and Chhatra League activists got into sporadic clashes centring a row between traders and seminary students.
