Husband kills wife in Shariatpur, body recovered

Shariatpur: Police recovered the body of a housewife from an abandoned pond at Moddho Machhuakhali of Goshairhat upazila in Shariatpur on Friday morning, 17 days after she went missing.
The deceased is Sharmin, 23, wife of Billal Laskar, a resident of Maddha Masuakhali.
Police said Sharmin, daughter of Shah Alam Chaukidar of Kanurga village in Kalkini upazila of Madaripur district, was married to Billal four years back.
The couple had been at loggerheads over dowry since their marriage.
On 5 January, Billal along with his wife and daughter Samia left their home for Dhaka.
Since then Sharmin went missing, said victim’s mother Jahanara.
Following the incident, Jahanara filed a General Dairy (GD) with Goshairhat Police Station on 11 January.
Later, police arrested Billal in connection with the incident on Thursday from Goshairhat for interrogation, said M Mofazzel Hossain, officer-in-charge of the police station.
During interrogation, Billal confessed to killing his wife by strangulation and hide the body at an abandoned pond in a jungle at Moddho Machuakhali.
Based on the information police recovered the body on Friday morning, said Assistant Superintendent of Police of Goshairhat Circle Suman Deb.
The body was sent to morgue for an autopsy, he added.
