Survey on street children within 6 months: Chumki
Dhaka: The government will conduct a survey on street children across the country in phases within the next six months for rehabilitating them, State Minister for Women and Children Affairs Meher Afroze Chumki told Parliament on Monday.
The Women and Children Affairs Ministry and Social Welfare Ministry will jointly conduct the survey, and prepare a full-fledged action plan for rehabilitating the street children, she said replying to a starred question from Awami League MP Monowara Begum (Women Seat-17).
Following directives of the Prime Minister for rehabilitating the street children, a meeting held on October 14, 2015 at Bangladesh Shishu Academy’s conference room took the decision, the junior minister said.
Chumki said Bangladesh Shishu Academy has already prepared a project proposal regarding rehabilitation of street and slum children of the Dhaka city and submitted the proposal to the Public Administration Ministry.
The project is under process to get approval and once it is approved, the street children of the capital will be rehabilitated and will get education, she said.
