Gazipur: A man was killed in a reported gunfight with Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) members at Tongi in Gazipur early on Tuesday.

RAB officials said the deceased, Jewel, is wanted in two murder cases, two arms cases and a woman torture case.

The Tongi police officer-in-charge Firoz Ahmed said police recovered Jewel’s body from Tongi River Port area in the morning.  The body was kept at Tongi police station.

RAB officials said acting on a tip-off, a team of RAB 1 conducted a raid in Tongi River Port area at about 2:30am on Tuesday.

Sensing the presence of RAB members, Jewel opened fire on RAB members and tried to flee from the spot. RAB also fired him back and left him dead on the spot.

Later, RAB members recovered foreign pistol, magazine, a bullet, and bullet shell from the spot.

RAB claimed two of their members were also injured during the gunfight.
