Benapole: Twelve Bangladeshis returned home through Benapole check post on Tuesday night after serving four years’ jail term in an Indian prison, reports UNB

The returnees—10 teenagers, a woman and a child—are residents of different areas of Jessore, Barisal, Gopalganj, Narayanganj, Mymensingh and Narail districts.

Nayeb Subedar Abdullahil Wafi of Benapole check post camp of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) 26 battalion said the arrestees had gone to India illegally in search of jobs four years back.

Later, Indian police arrested them from Kolkata rail station area.

A case was filed against them and an Indian court awarded them four years’ imprisonment each for crossing the border without valid documents.

The Indian government has returned them following repeated requests from the Home Ministry of Bangladesh.

Indian Border Security Forces (BSF) handed them over to BGB through Benapole check post at night.
