2 killed in Cox’s Bazar election violence
Cox’s Bazar: Two men, including a member candidate, were killed in a triangular clash among the supporters of two member candidates and law enforcers in Shah Porir Dwip in Teknaf upazila in Cox’s Bazar on Tuesday.
The deceased are Mohammad Selim, a member candidate, a resident of Majhorpara of the area, and Abdul Gofur, brother of a chairman candidate Jahed Hossain, a resident of Mandalpara of the area.
Police said the supporters of the two member candidates Mohammad Selim and Nurul Amin locked in a clash at about 9:00pm during vote counting at Shah Porir Dwip Primary School. The two groups opened fire at each other, leaving Selim dead on the spot and at least 20 others injured.
The Teknaf police officer-in-charge Abdul Mojid confirmed the incident.
Later, as the law enforcers, including member of police, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) rushed to the spot and opened fire to take the situation under control, a triangular clash ensued, leaving Gafur spot dead.
