PM opens Barrack for PGR members
Dhaka: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Tuesday inaugurated a four- storey barrack for the members of the President Guard Regiment (PGR), reports UNB.
The Prime Minister inaugurated the newly constructed building through unveiling its plaque at Ganobhaban Complex.
The PGR barrack also has an office complex, a library and other facilities like multipurpose room for recreation and indoor games as well as gymnasium, while there is a mosque connecting it with a hanging bridge.
Public Works Department implemented the project in 10 months’ time spending Tk 8.42 crore. Some 150 PGR members will now be able to comfortable reside at the new barrack.
Prime Minister’s Defence affairs Adviser Major General (retd) Tarik Ahmed Siddique, Principal Secretary Abul Kalam Azad, Prime Minister’s Military Secretary Major General Mia Mohammad Jainul Abedin and Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim were present during inauguration of the barrack.
Later, Sheikh Hasina went round different sections of the Barrack.
Established on 5 July, 1975 by Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the PGR is entrusted with providing security to the President and the Prime Minister, and other VVIPs as per government decision.
