Rail bridge collapse snaps Sylhet’s rail link with Dhaka, Ctg

Sylhet: Train communication of Sylhet with Dhaka and Chittagong has been snapped as a rail bridge collapsed due to heavy rainfall early on Monday.
The train communication was snapped from 5:00am on Monday.
Shamshernagar Railway Station master in Kamalganj upazila Kabir Ahmed said Jankichhora rail bridge on Akhaura-Sylhet route collapsed due to heavy rainfall and a flash flood from the hilly area of Lawachhara National Park.
Dhaka bound inter-city trains Kalni Express, Jayantika Express and Akhaura bound diesel electric multiple unit (DEMU) train remained stranded at Sylhet railway station following the collapse.
Ali Azam, sub-assistant engineer of Bangladesh Railway (BR) Srimangal, said it would take around 24 to 30 hours to restore the rail communication.
