Sylhet: The Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) in a drive arrested a former official of Standard Bank from Pathantuli area of Sylhet city on charge of embezzling Tk 1.15 core from the bank, reports UNB.

The arrestee is Hossain Ahmed, former branch manager of Bishwanath upazila branch of the bank and son of late Abdul Wadud, hailing from Salitika village of Barlekha upazila in Moulvibazar.

A team of the ACC, led by its director Md Abul Hasan, conducted a drive in the area on Tuesday evening and arrested him.

Abul Hasan said the accused banker transacted the said amount with the customers of the branch through vouchers from January, 2014 to May, 2015, but he did not add this amount to the bank account.

The bank’s Sylhet regional branch vice-president ADP Parvez filed a case with Bishwanath Police Station against Hossain Ahmed for grabbing Tk 16 lakh on 9 July 2015.

The ACC director also added that during the investigation into the case, they found evidence that the alleged banker embezzled about Tk 1.15 core in total from the branch.

The ACC officials handed over the arrested to Kotwali Police Station.
