Kamal Abdul Naser elected chairman of Unesco Committee on Conventions
Dhaka: Senior Secretary of the Public Administration Ministry Dr Kamal Abdul Naser Chowdhury has been elected chairman of the Committee on Conventions and Recommendations of the Unesco Executive Board.
He was elected unanimously from the Asia and the Pacific region at the 199th meeting of the Unesco Executive Board held at its headquarters on Thursday in Paris, said a PID handout.
The Committee on Conventions and Recommendations is one of the five permanent subsidiary committees of Unesco.
This important committee consists of 30 members and meets in closed session -- twice a year in principle -- on the occasion of the sessions of the Executive Board.
Dr Chowdhury is currently representing Bangladesh in the Unesco Executive Board for 2013-2017 period. He also served as Vice Chairman of the board from 2013-2015.
The Unesco Executive Board meeting began on April 4 and Dr Chowdhury is leading an eight-member Bangladesh delegation.
